The Product

What Is Biofill™?

Biofill™ is a flowable hemp-lime insulation. Natural, non-VOC materials mixed and poured straight into standard wall framing. No spraying. No tamping. No stacking. No air gaps. No pests. It hardens into a solid, breathable wall in under an hour, and it keeps storing carbon for as long as the building stands.

Installs faster

30–50% faster than traditional cast in place hempcrete or block, while using standard mixing and pouring equipment.

Naturally fire- and pest-resistant

Class A fire rating with no added flame retardants, and resistant to mold and pests without chemical treatment.

Comfortable, healthy indoor air

Breathable and moisture-regulating, with zero VOC off-gassing.

Carbon-negative

Sequesters roughly 2 lbs of CO₂ per 1 lb of installed material, for the life of the building.

FAQ

Common questions

Can I install Biofill myself, or do I need a certified builder?

Biofill is a professional-install product. It’s poured into standard wall framing, and proper mixing and pour technique directly affects cure strength and R-value, so we recommend working with a certified installer or an experienced hemp-building contractor. If you’re a hands-on homeowner, you can still buy Biofill directly and have your framer or general contractor place it — we’re happy to walk your contractor through the process. Our installer certification program (currently in development) will make it easier to find pros who’ve been trained on Biofill specifically.

Material cost is roughly comparable to premium insulation options. Installed cost tends to land close to conventional stud-frame construction because Biofill collapses several layers (insulation, sheathing, air barrier) into a single pour — so labor and trade coordination go down even when the material line goes up. Use the Quote Calculator for an estimate on your specific wall area.
Biofill sets in 45–60 minutes and can be poured at roughly the speed of a standard concrete pour. On a whole-house wall assembly, pour work typically wraps in 1–3 days depending on wall area and crew size, versus 1–3 weeks for hand-tamped hempcrete block.

Hemp-lime wall assemblies are recognized in the 2024 IRC (Appendix BL) and are being adopted state by state. Approval status and insurer familiarity vary — download our Permit Kit for jurisdiction-ready code references, or contact us and we’ll help you and your local building official work through the review.
